The Conservancy created its Conservation Forestry Program to counter threats posed by inappropriate timber harvesting within the Clinch River watershed. Under its innovative program, the Conservancy seeks to foster partnerships with private landowners, sustain the economic productivity of working forests, and protect the health of natural forest systems throughout the Clinch Valley.
In 2002, Stuart Land & Cattle Company's permanent enrollment of 5,750 acres on historic Rich Mountain Farm launched the Conservation Forestry Program.
