Prescribed Burning
To insure the native quality of the Dancing Prairie preserve, the Conservancy actively controls manages a prescribed fire program. Before the intervention of humans, wildfires occurred on regular intervals. The prescribed fire program successfully restores fire to this environment, helping the native grassland ecosystem to recycle nutrients. This nutrient flush regenerates grasses and other plants, allowing them to grow more vigorously. The burning also increases the biability of these species as well as forage palatability and nutritional value for wildlife.
