Today, more corporate leaders are playing an important role in conserving the biodiversity in our state. The Nature Conservancy has achieved a strong reputation working with agencies, businesses and foundations to create a balance between sustaining Mississippi’s economic growth and protecting the state’s precious natural areas. By partnering with the Conservancy in Mississippi, businesses are responding to the challenge of growing the state’s economy while keeping in mind quality of life for members of our communities and reducing environmental impacts.

In April 2007, U.S. Senator Trent Lott commended the members of The Nature Conservancy’s Corporate Council for the Environment at their annual luncheon. Speaking to a group of nearly 150 business leaders, agency directors and guests, Senator Lott said, “Like the Nature Conservancy, I believe we can responsibly balance Mississippi’s boundless natural beauty with our state’s growing economy. We have the means and responsibility to ensure our state continues being highly competitive for new economic opportunities, without jeopardizing the abundant natural resources Mississippians have long enjoyed and treasured.”

The Conservancy recognized 44 businesses and foundations for supporting their business-like approach to conservation in Mississippi. State Director Robbie Fisher expressed deep thanks and appreciation to major event sponsors, Chevron, DuPont DeLisle, Mississippi Power Company and members and supporters of the Corporate Council for the Environment saying, “The ability of the Mississippi Chapter to succeed in our mission depends on the generous support we receive from our members, supporters and agency partners.”
