September 30, 2008: New Flood Storage Project to Protect Homes and Farms
The Nature Conservancy and the Buffalo-Red River Watershed District announced today that construction of a new floodwater storage and retention pond in Riverton Township is underway. The project will help alleviate flooding and erosion problems for homes and farms located downstream as well as residences and businesses in Glyndon.

April 01, 2008: The Nature Conservancy Receives $1.8 Million Gift to Help Protect Common Loon
The Nature Conservancy announced today that it has received $1.8 million to help conserve the common loon, the official state bird of Minnesota. The gift from the late Iva Weir is one of the largest donations benefiting a single species the Conservancy has ever received in Minnesota.

February 14, 2008: Legislature Approves Great Outdoors and Heritage Amendment; Voters To Decide on Nov. 4
The state Legislature approved the landmark Great Outdoors and Heritage Amendment as its first piece of business. The initiative, nearly a decade in the making, asks voters to amend the state Constitution to dedicate a small portion of the state sales tax to protect clean water, wildlife, natural areas and cultural heritage projects.

October 03, 2007: Public Access Ensured to 51,163 Acres in Minnesota’s Northwoods
Governor Pawlenty announced today that more than 51,000 acres of forest—almost 80 square miles—in Itasca and Koochiching counties have been conserved. This is the single largest conservation project in Minnesota in at least a decade. The agreement will protect jobs, preserve wildlife habitat and guarantee public access for outdoor recreation.
